Roommate put deadbolt on room, is this illegal?
My boyfriend and I allowed his mom to rent a room from us. She's not on the lease, as we are. She's placed a dead bolt lock on her room door without permission. Is this illegal?

No, if I was renting a room in someone else's home I would have it locked where others can not get into that room.

Why does it matter to you, why does her wanting to secure and lock her room matter.

It's not illegal. You should have a key in case of emergencies But its not illegal.

It wouldn't matter but we've found drugs that she's dropped by her door when she was leaving. Also she hasn't paid rent and today is the 2nd. She's not responding to text messages or phone calls. What can I do to get her out of my house? Ive got a daughter and Ive already ask this lady to leave but she won't.

We had a key but since we asked her to leave she's found the key and took it. I need to know how to get her out. She's not paying rent now either. She won't return and calls.

First, please don't use the Comments feature for followups. Use the Answer options instead.

Second you should have said you want her out n the first place. Our answers would have been different. I'm assuming she's not on a lease. So you can either give her a pay or quit notice or a 30 day termination notice. If she still refuses to leave, you file for an eviction order.
