I have a 1996 Ford explorer that doesn't have overdrive. Does it have a sensor.
I was wondering if there is a sensor or something to be replaced to fix this problem.

If I am correct no it is not a sensor it's built into the tranmission. When overdrive is turned on it shifts the tranmission into it's highest gear allowing it to reduce engine power and increase gas mileage also if you want to read more about it go to wikipedia and type this in: Overdrive_(mechanics)
