I got arrested for 11357(b), but purchased a plane ticket before the arrest.
I recently bought a plane ticket for Hawaii, and will be sent to a third world country to help people in need for 6 months as part of a volunteer project. About a week after the purchase, me, a friend, and his two friends were arrested for possession of marijuana. My flight leaves in 8 days, and my court hearing is in 22 days. I am planning on pleading not guilty, as my friend admitted to police that the marijuana was his. Is it possible to extend my court day till June, when I am due to return? I have copies of my itinerary. Also, what steps can I take for a civil infraction instead of a misdemeanor? I am 19 years old, and located in California. I am aware that the new law goes into effect in 2 days, will this help me?

You're stupid to hang out with people like that. I think you got what you deserved.

No you can not go, and you will never get the case continued that soon. But you can try, or should be today, hire an attorney and have him at the court house NOW with a request to move the date till then,

Also you were arrested under the old law, not the new law, so you will have to face the punishmement under the law in effect at the time of the crime. You can ask the DA to consider the change, but I would not hold my breath

Good luck hope it works out. Definitely need a private attorney if you want to jump through all the hoops. I would say remain optimistic and try everything you can under your rights and court procedures you would be surprised how some things work out.

    Hello p:

I don't know what law you're talking about... But, you're not going to get ANY relief from the court WITHOUT a lawyer.
