I have a SONY VAIO E Series Laptop and an LG LD450 1080P HDMI TV. Both of them have HDMI port. I wanted to use my TV as monitor. I know that a HDMI cable would do the job but not sure if there is any specific brand/configuration that I should be looking at and if there are any specific procedures to do that? Any suggestions would be helpful

For most Sony Laptops it should just be plug and play.

Just make sure your TV is set to Just Scan or something similar so as to avoid overscan issues. See your TV manual details.
