What is a normal cost of neutering your 7 moth old puppy? I live in Colorado and want to fix my puppy but the idea of putting him under sounds kind of scary... We also have a 2 yr old male dog that isn't fixed, will this be a problem to have one fixed but one not?

Both dogs should get fixed. The cost varies from vet to vet. Check with a local animal shelter to find out the vet who gives the best price. The animal shelter may even offer coupons for a low-cost neutering (mine does). The vets do neuterings often, and risk is minimal unless the animals already have a health problem. The health benefits are phenomenal and well worth the cost.

Definitely agree with Wondergirl, get both dogs fixed.
Although you are neutering the puppy he won't smell like a male dog anymore, but he won't smell like a female either so once he grows up your older entire dog could still see him as a threat and want to fight. By getting the older male fixed it will decrease his testosterone levels and make him less inclined to be territorial.

The younger you can get them neutered the better as it cancels out a lot of behavioral problems.

Health risks are minimal for a male dog, they are out for a very short amount of time and recovery is fast.
These days the don't actually remove the scrotum, the make a small incision near the base of the penis and just remove the testes.
Don't panic if your dog looks like it is still entire, there is usually some swelling that will make the testes appear unchanged, but they will gradually shrink over a few months.

I agree, both dogs should be fixed. It's SO much healthier and less stressful for them to be altered. It's not painful for them, as they are put under anesthetic, very important to get the pre surgery blood work done In my opinion, and usually are sent home with a small dose of pain relief and an anti biotic. They get usually get 1-2 disolvable stitches, some vets even use a glue if necessary. Back to their normal happy self in a week tops. Like Shazzy mentioned, they still look intact for a few months, but shrinking each day.

The average cost is anywhere from $80-$200. I know that is vbague, but every state and province is so different. I am from Canada, so I am un familiar with Colorado pricing.
