Yes... its compatible back as far as Windows 2000 at least, which is the oldest O/S I actually still have in use on anything.

Not this one... its just an old PC to surf the net outside the corporate Intranet and outside the watchful eye of corporate big brother... Its just too old and slow for XP. Doesn't meet the minimum requirements to allow it to install. Yeah it's that old and slow.

I'll replace it the next time I find something better dumpster diving. THe last one I found I'm turning into a file server... it was a 3 ghz Pentium 4. Too good to use for surfing at work.

I've actually owned and used Microsoft WIndows 286... never heard of it? Most people haven't. It predated windows 3.0 by several years.

I've been dinking around with computers since Before Bill Gates released MS/DOS into the Commercial world a touch over 30 years now... and Before IBM created the first PC. Now.

Used to work on and with DEC VAX 11/785 mini mainframes 20+ years ago.

I've actually used a Commodore CBM in College to learn programing on. Before the IBM-PC displaced it in the workplace.

    I guess that dates me...

I believe this was the first PC I remember working on/with! If not this then a slight variation.

Yeah.. thats WAY after the first IBM/PC... which as you know didn't run on MS/DOC but BASICA in ROM on the motherboard.

IBM Archives: The IBM Personal Computer

Note the FULL Height 5 1/2" floppy drives, and the GREEN monochrome monitor. Hard Drive was optional and was a 5 MEG drive that cost $5,000.

I actually used to have one that still worked, monitor and all... but was stolen from the garage many years ago.
