I am disabled and need money for home modifications where can I find help?
I am in a wheelchair and unable to walk.I also have many health issues. In order for me to get inside my house, I must be carried by my son. I have steps both out front and back. Once inside there are steps going upstirs to my bedroom. That is an impossibility for me. I have a hospital bed in the living room along with a potty chair. I have no privacy. I have a powder room that I am unable to get in. I need the powder room enlarged along with a roll in shower. I also need a bedroom added. These additions would make life so much easeier Any help would be appreciated. Ginger

Actually a potty chair by the bed and a bed in the front room or another down stair room is very common, that is how the majority of disabiled people with stairs in their homes have to do it.

One can also consider selling the one home and buying a home that is single story.

You first call on family and friends to help. Ramps can be bought for a few hundred dollars, other made.

There are some groups, like Friends of Disabled Adults and Children ( FODAC) that help those in need, but there is a waiting list often and you will get used equipment

Also depending on what your disability is from, for example the MDA group, offers some help in supplies and equipment.

After that, you will need to work with your welfare case worker as to what locally is available.

Then you go to groups like Catholic Charities, and then to the religious group of your own faith.

Other groups that sometimes help are veteran groups, VFW and American Legion are a couple.

Call the reference department of your local public library. They have a directory or at least a list of organizations that offer helps for the disabled.
