I finally started communicating with this guy again after a long time apart. We have been talking to one another, but something didn't seem right. I started going to dinner withs someone and did not keep it a secret from him. He then would wake up and text me good morning messages the next day. Later, I asked him if he was involved with someone (because again something didn't seem right) and he told me he was interested in someone, but it was not official. I then told him to forget my number and move on. He later texted me and said he didn't want anything from me and I was the one who contacted him. I never replyed back and let it go... What should I make of this?

You made no secret about you going to dinner, so what's the big deal about him seeing someone else. You were not official, you were both free to do your own things without each other. What's wrong with that??

I would say stop talking to him if it's going to be like like. If it really bugs you get a new phone number.
