    Router concerns
Just got a new computer for christmas with xp, my other one is running 98.

Can I use a router to link the two or do I have to upgrade the 98 to xp?

    Thanks

You can use a router, but you have to be careful in purchasing. You will find many routers, especially wireless ones, don't support Win 98. You may also find your Win 98 PC is too light to run Win XP.

    To add to Scott's response.
The Win98 machine needs to be wired to the router as wireless with this operating system is very hit and miss, with more misses.
Win98 supports wired networking fine, so you may need to get a network card for it. These are quite cheap and easy to install.

In my experience, the workable minimum for XP is a 500 Mhz CPU, 256 Mb RAM and 20 Gb hard drive.

XP on the other hand will run pretty much anything you throw at it, so a wireless router maybe a good idea as these operate both as wired ( for Win98 ) and wireless (for XP).
Also what type of internet connection do you have as this may make a difference to your choice of router.

    Thanks for the help.
Think I'll go with 'wired'. My internet connection is Cable High Speed.
