We just moved into a very nice home but the old owners decided to do some damage after they left and before we could move in. They punched holes in the walls then came back cut most of the copper lines underneath. These were not copper thieves because they left behind too much. I replaced with all new copper lines and valves. They left most of the lines on the water heater.an electric dual element. We have great cold water pressure and no hot water pressure. All the lines have been insulated. The hot water line feels hot throughout the basement. Great pressure flow from the bottom drain when I flushed it. The upper pressure relief valve has great pressure when I checked it. There is just no hot water pressure and no hot water coming from the upstairs taps. Have I missed something??

No its very weak as well. I replaced the gate valve last night on the hot water line. Then flushed the wh again. Water ran very hot and clear from the bottom of the water heater. This only increased pressure very little. Today Im going to pull the dip tube and check the nipple vavles on hot and cold side. I have great cold water pressure all over the house just no hot water pressure.

Since you seem to have good pressure into the tank I'd start with the HOT water nipple and fitting.

Most often I find it is the threaded adapters attached to the nipples that are really clogged up so plan on chipping away at the sediment to clean the fittings and then reinstall with a new pair of dielectric nipples if needed... ;)

Finally, if that fails repeat the cleaning at the cold water nipple and fitting. You may even need to change the COLD water shutoff, but one of these should be the culprit!
