    Harassing neighbor
I am guessing none of you answering this question have lived with crazy neighbors. Unfortunately I do, my neighbor shoots his guns off at least 3-10 times a year after dark. Runs my mail box over, smashes all the windows out of all the cars on my property (that are outside). My van was gone of course and my car was in the pole barn... Oh and I forgot to mention he drives in the end of my driveway and spins his tires and has attempted to run me off the road with his three young children in his truck... Why haven't I gotten a PPO?? Well really you ask? I work all day everyday when the court's are open and when I do have a day off it's on a holiday... hmmmm I wonder. I truly know what is like to live by a crazy lunatic. Why should I have to even deal with the crap. Why do I have to go and apply for the PPO?? If you live in Michigan they cost money. Why should I have to pay for it? You all can think all you want about both sides to every story... Is there really? All I ever did to his stupid *** is bought this property and built a home for me and my family to live PEACEFULLY! With no idiots... The cops do nothing. Oh wait I guess back in the day I had to have an assessor asses my property and he stated that the neighbors fence is on my property. I have kindly asked him to move it and this has driven him to destroy my property? If I do nothing and he doesn't remove it he can legally claim it after 7 years. I have had so many problems with him I have left it alone. I know my stupidity, but I have no money to hire someone to make him move it... If you are all so smart what would you suggest I do? Maybe quit my job or wait better yet not go to work get fired, loss my house that he is running me out of and sit on welfare like the rest of America? Just for dealing with getting a PPO? Again I shouldn't have to even bother with this... So think what you want but getting a PPO may just make it worse... I think he should have to purchase my home for all the distress he has caused.

Do you have any of the bullets used to to shoot out your windows? Have you called the police with a shots fired report?

In many places it is illegal to discharge a firearm without good reason. If you could prove the windows were shot with his gun, then the police have a criminal case against him.

AS for not having the time to go to court, you can hire an attorney to file the papers for you. And most jobs allow some time (vacations, sickdays) that you could use when you have to appear.

How far over your property is the fence? It may be worth it to give him a gift of a few square feet to get him to stop.

Gee, I really want to sympathize but all this 'well if you are all so smart' crap is going to get dished out at me, I for one am not putting much effort into it. Yes, I had a crazy neighbor who resented me after I I proved that we weren't on HIS property. Yes, my windows were shot out one night and the cops said nothing but 'must have been some kids' even though I was standing outside right under said window.

You fight what you have to fight or move. I won my fight partly because the whole neighborhood felt the same way - he moved away.

Yes, you want to do nothing to help yourself, take a day off to go get a PPO, all the police when it happens, ( the mail box is a seroius offense and you call the postal inspector.

Since you don't want to do anything, I will assume you just like to have something to complain about.

Of course concrete pillar by the mail box was always my favorite post.

You don't really want help, oh you want someone to do it for you, but it does not work like that.

Start getting proof, start doing a video tape, start calling police and getting evidence or just move

*** OK I know it is not really "legal advice" but this guy is too smart for that and does not have any time to do anything.

    Hello I:

I'm not so smart... I think you should keep on doing what you're doing... God knows, you can't do something and wind up on welfare...

So what if PPO's cost money. I got a PPO against my neighbor across the street from me who would use his BB gun to put pot shots into the vinyl siding of my home, my car's tail lights, etc. He did try to run me over in my OWN driveway with his PU truck and run me off the road. But AFTER I got the PPO guess what? He had his FRIENDS torment me instead. Yup. I just got it WORSE then and every time I tried to complain to the cops when another window in my home was smashed from the outside when I was at work all they did was blame my 12 year old son for the damage! Sonny was inside the home so how could the window glass be inside if he supposedly smashed the window from the inside? I even had long wooden carpenter's levels hurled through the window from the outside. Now where did my kid gte that? Oh he could have found it in some neighbor's yard and brought it home and hurled it through the window. Cops are so smart that they can come up with all sorts of clever scenerios when they don't want to arrest the perp doing the damage to your house. Been there, done that.

I'd suggest that you move or this guy just might end up "accidently" shooting his gun in the middle of the night into your bedroom and "accidently" killing you or one of your family members. My husband was sitting in the LR late one night watching TV and the nasty neighbor with his BB gun "accidently" shot out the window less than 6" from my husband's head. Cops came out and did zip as they were not there to see it as it would have been a misdemeanor with a BB gun. Wonder what they will assess your "problem" with a real gun as.

I moved when I could and got the hell away from my "neighbor" across the street. After 11 years I had more than enough torment regardless of how many police reports I had (well over 15 reports) no one would do anything to him or his family but let him keep on his torment of me and my family. One of his favorite games was to ride his bicycle and try to knock down my 80 year old mother walking with a cane around the neighborhood. Yup. Real winner of a guy, may he rot in hell.

I have called the cops many times. I have police repots as long as my road on this guy. I agree getting a PPO is going to make it worse been there done that. I have no trespassing signs up. Nothing stops this dumb ***.. He just gets away with everything. The whole neighborhood is his family, so I can't count on them for nothing. I just don't know what else I have to do.. Although it has been suggested that I get the ATF involved, so I am moving in that direction tomorrow. I am also going to contact my mortgage company tomorrow and see if they can assist in anyway. As we all fear for our lives and cannot live here anymore. My comment wasn't towards everyone. Sorry if I offended you... I totally understand where this lady is coming from. Many were saying there's always two sides to each story and blah blah. I am sure there are in some situations however, she is looking for support, help or maybe even advice and some are talking about things that are irrelevant. This is no joking matter! People are getting away with unnecessary behaviors that we, the tax payers pay to cops to stop... They need to step up there game and do their job. There're many people on here complaining of the same stuff... (cops don't do anything or blame it on everyone but the source) They are paid to keep the people safe and enforce the laws. Not to mention there are children involved this shoud make them do their job even more. Children didn't ask to come here let alone live in hell because of some crazy neighbor... On another note Many don't get time off from work to get things done. Some people don't have others to cover their jobs nor can they afford to take time off... I do thank some of you for your advise although most has or already is in place... I just hope the blood comes back as a positive match and he gets what he has coming to him unless he goes to Mexico first, which will be a blessing too.

WHAT blood are you speaking about? If his family is Mexican and the entire neighborhood are their relatives then the BEST thing you can do at this point is cut your loses and move as soon as you can. You may live in an area of "sanctuary" where the cops don't do a damn thing to THEM but actually charge US instead. Be advised that these sanctuary areas exist in the USA in cities and areas where you would never guess they exist. I live in backwater Ohio and in the next county down from me the Mexicans can get away with virtually anything they want to i.e. driving with no licenses, no insurance, etc. for starters. In one smallish town near here they even have the chief of police cowed into hiding so what you say is possibly the case.

The idea of sanctuary is a myth, first there is no legal basis for it, a crime is a crime, there are areas where police are too busy and too over worked to deal with certain levels of crime.

In Atlanta for example, if your car gets broken into, they don't send a police officer, you merely do a report over the phone. We caught a theft one time, but the police were too busy with shootings to even send a car to our house to get the theft. So we finally let him go ( after a long discussion with him on the wrong doings)

So if you live in a area where the police do little for certain levels of crime you would know
