I think the links are good but the driver package isn't behaving. Both the XP drivers on HP's site crashed for me during install. The driver packages I already had because I have this printer also crash. Further, one from TechSpot crashes too. So, I suspect these old packages may not be compatible with some newer software, perhaps XP Service Pack 3.

Here's a workaround for basic parallel connectivity:
    1. Download the basic driver package from HP's site.
    2. Using a file compression utility, such as 7-Zip, extract all the files from the driver package to a folder, say "3820Driver".
    3. Add the printer via Windows' Control Panel and point the printer installation wizard to the extracted files in 3820Driver\win2k_xp\enu\drivers\win2k_xp.
    4. During install, there will be two complaints about missing files, but each time point the wizard to 3820Driver\win2k_xp\enu\drivers \win2k_xp and the driver installation will complete.
