And I guess you're asking how to stop it? Well I would suggest a hot drink in the morning which would help to soften whatever is blocking your throat which would make it easier to clear out of your throat.

Yup, lots of warm (or cold) liquids all day long. They really do soften the glueyness of the mucus.
    Humidifier
    Menthol cough drops
    Antihistamines
Wash your pillow case and your pillow if you haven't in a while
Keep dust down if you can
Brush your tongue when brushing teeth
Don't crank up the heat too much in cold weather unless you have humidity and stay away from hot air vents

    I forgot!
Gargle with warm salt water every half hour if you can stand it, or twice a day at minimum.
AND last but not least (this has worked for us for years now):
Fresh ginger, onions, and garlic in your dinner at least 4 times a week in the winter. You may not want ginger in your spaghetti but it works for a lot of dishes.

I was having this feeling of mucus across my throat. Went to ENT for sinus infection and re this she
Said to take a deep breath in and let it out slowly (I learned didn't have to be slow) anyway... I do this twice in a row and I'm clear... it comes back, it's not permanent but it kept me from going nuts... and still does
