I am replacing an interior timer that programs outdoor lighting. When I connect the wires, which I believe is correct, the lights flicker and the timer makes a clicking noise. I tried every variation of wiring and the only time the lights work is when this ticking occurs. I tried several new timers so a defective timer is not the issue. It may be a defective installer (me). Any thoughts?
