To the best of my knowledge there is no research on the metabolism (particularly distribution and elimination) of the synthetic blends. That being said, I don't believe that any standard drug test would detect. If they contained standard psychoactive chemicals they could have never made it to market. The tests for cannabis are actually looking for residue of THC and none of the blends would contain THC.

Please advise what product you referenced through the laboratory and I will review it. Perhaps some labs have developed a test although drug tests should be checking only for illegal drugs.

Followup: As of June 2010 no laboratory in the US offered a test for JWH (or any synthetic cannabinoid). In the UK a test has been developed. JWH is illegal in the UK, I am advised. There will, and may by now be, a test for the substance but use of the test would presumably be limited to jurisdictions where the product is illegal.

I also found one anecdotal report of testing positive for PCP following use of JWH. However, that would not be returned as positive following confirmatory testing by GC/MS.

On July 12, 2010 Redwood did advertise the introduction of a test specific to the synthetic cannabinoids. On the other hand Quest Diagnostics, one of the largest in the US, (as of a few days ago) does not offer the test noting that they wouldn't know what they are testing for. If the test is used it is at an additional cost nearly tripling the fee for a standard test.

In reiteration of my original statement, there is no body of research dealing with the products and isn't likely to be. As soon as these chemicals are reclassified as illegal a new batch will emerge to take their place.

JWH has a completely different chemical composition from cannabis. Cannabis remains in your system for a long period because it is stored in fatty tissues... in fact mildly bonds to fatty tissue. There is no indication that JWH shares that characteristic. My concern with this test would be as Quest noted. They really don't know what they are looking. Particularly there are no studies on cross reactivity... what causes a false positive?

I wish I could be of more help in relation to elimination time, but I don't believe that information is available at this time. You are more or less stuck with user reports for now. Being a relatively fast acting chemical(s) it is likely that elimination is also and 72 hrs probably an over-estimate (ave).

I have been unable to find a published reliability estimate for the test. No error rate seems to be known.

First with the exception of the few places that have passed laws against the sale of it, I did not know the actual use is illegal? Just illegal to sell.

But anyway, the same test as DR Bill said, will not test for both.

Good luck to you. You should be fine.

I should note that the DEA is moving to reclassify the substances to a temporary status of controlled substance, Schedule I, (per notice, Nov 24, 2010). So that will motivate other labs to adopt the tests as well. Absolutely amazing!

Hello. The highest elemination point that I have read is 72 hours. I was wondering if that is current as of 1/15/11. I'm a cronic smoker of spice, most present chemical is JWH 018. My current treatment is monthly's and I herd from some kids in my group that the test exedes the 72 hour window. The kids are faily dumb, but I don't have any reason to doubt them besides that fact. Please post if you hear anything about this, thank you.
