When my daughter was born, she took her father's last name. I and the father are not married, but we were together at the time. My daughter is 10 months old now and since she was about a month old, her father and I have been split. He doesn't see her very often, but we are on speaking terms for her sake. I feel that since I am her mother and I care for her, she should have my last name. But, I was considering having her last name hyphenated. It would be her fathers last name and then mine afterwards.
My question is this. How much would it cost to have her name hyphenated in the state of Ohio? Also, would it be a good idea to have her take both of our names, or just either his or mine?
