Why won't my 2 year old sleep through the night?
My duaghter just turned 2, we were forced to move her to a toddler bed because she was continually climbing out of her crib. At first she slept fine in her "big girl bed" but just recently she wakes up repeatedly throughout the night. She falls asleep by herself with no problems but once she wakes up she will not go to sleep unless I am sitting next to her bed. We have tried crying it out, but she will just cry for hours. :(

Is she napping during the day?
If so perhaps cut that out.

    Is the room dark enough?

Is she waking because she is too hot or cold?

What is she eating at teatime? Could the time between teatime and bedtime be too long and she is waking up hungry?

Is there outside noises that may be waking her?

Lots of questions I know, but if you can rule out most of the above questions you may hit upon the answer.

Other posters will offer advice also.

You already answered your own question hon. You can't move a child of any age to a whole new bed, and expect it to go over well. Give her time, time and MORE time. It could take a year before she feels good in her new bed. Find what works for her and go with it.
