I lost my old passport which is cancelled and I have a new passpost. The old passport number is mention in new passport . Can I apply for u.k study visa... is there any problem or not

What country was your passport issued? Is the number listed the same as your lost/canceled passport or is it a new number?

Its new passport number but the old passport number is mention in new passport... I want to apply for student visa of u.k and there requirement is submitt your old passport but I lost the old passport... so what I do.. I have my new passport is valid till 2019... so why they need old passport..
