    House-Trained dog pooping in house?
I have a house- trained 2 year old poodle and we recently got another poodle who is only a puppy. They get along great and the older dog is the dominant animal in the house. The puppy has pee pads that he always uses. He sometimes goes in the house but always goes pee on the pads... I can understand that because he is new a puppy. I still show him where to go and he is learning. Yet, my house-trained dog is beginning to poop and pee around the house, which is very unusual. Even, getting put outside to go to the bathroom, and coming back in and pooping on the carpet!
    Help me please?
How can I house- train a NEW puppy and have my older one stay on track!

Your older dog is being pretty smart, someonegirl. Take them both out at the same time (I don't agree with the pads). Every dog should be house trained outside the house, it is only natural for them. Your older dog is acting out and telling you the new pup is getting too much attention and being given too many privileges. Our four legged friends are not so dumb you know, but they can speak, so have to do it some other way.

You are actually setting up a bad habit with the pee pads. They are too easy for him/her and you and absolutely make it too easy for the young one who has to learn he can't take advantage.

    I can try that!
The only problem is I'm a little afraid to take them outside because the puppy is very small and the weather is extremely cold...

Hi someonegirl, how old is the pup. I trained my Taffy at 8 weeks (a rescue pup) and started to housebreak her almost immediately and it was in the middle of winter. I assure you, they can take the cold, their predecessors lived in it without shelter most times.

    He is 12 Weeks old...
And my older one is 2 years.
The youngest one is a toy poodle... and the other is the miniature.

Hi there, The previous posts are older but I'd like to chime in. I have a 7 year old miniature poodle who came to us as a retired breeding dog at age five and he was perfectly housetrained. So we've had him for two years. In October we brought home a toy poodle puppy. For the last month the older boy has been intermittently pooping in the house and his body language is very obvious. His nose is quite out of joint about the new puppy who obviously needs a lot of attention right now for potty training and manners. So I have re-committed to our older boy and he is getting a lot of firm reassurance, love, attention and a little bit of re-training. I don't think this regression is hard to figure out at all. Yes it's a pain but it's our job as pet owners to understand the consequences and dynamics of new puppy to our older pets. Luckily I can take my poodles with me most places so I can keep a good eye on what's going on. When left at home, puppy is crated and now older guy is too until things sort themselves out. BTW I don't agree with puppy pads either unless you have a tiny dog in an apartment and rarely go out. I have been tempted, believe me because the weather is getting colder. Please don't believe online posts that you can potty train your dog in 24 hours or 6 days or whatever. What nonsense. It's not physically possible for a puppy to be trained that quickly. There will be accidents unless you spend every single second of the day with your puppy.
