Under bathroom sink where the drain pipe meets the excutcheon/slip nut/washer it is leaking badly. Also there is long metal thin bar there that goes to the knob you pull up to plug drain or down to unplug, that is bent is it suppose to be and badly rusted

This is where the p trap exits into the wall? Is it metal or plastic? You can try to tighten the nut but if it is badly corroded, it will most likely break. You should be able to remove the trap arm and install a new washer and nut. If it is very badly corroded, you may have to cut the trap arm adapter off and reconnect with a 1 1/4-1/2 Fernco connector. The lift rods are usually connected to a metal strap. In some case they can run straight but in many cases they have to be bent around valves or drains. If it is badly rusted it could be leaking from the faucet base or seal.

I agree, the rod is likely fine if your sink opens and closes OK. Do you see water damage on te floor of the cabinet or on any supplies stored under the sink? You kind of invented a new term "excutcheon/slip nut/washer " Want to try telling us again what you mean? Is this chrome or plastic?

I wondered about that term too. They probably have av escutcheon plate over the pipe where it goes into the wall. I put them on to look nice. Brian
