    Mysterious symbols
I came across this image (a number of people have it as their Facebook profile picture). Does anyone know the origin, significance and meaning of the symbols pictured. Also what is the origin of the picture itself (the symbols are pictured on a brown cloth)?
    Thanks!

Why not ask someone who is showing these symbols?

@Wondergirl: I do not know the people who are showing this picture (it's a friend of a friend kind of thing) and so I can't really ask them. Thanks for the suggestion though.
Still looking for an answer if anyone knows what these symbols mean. Answers appreciated.

The particular symbol is a Devanagri (script used in Sanskrit, Hindi etc.) letter. It could be transliterated as: "Shree" or "Sri". Broadly means 'virtue' (Please don't hold me to the meaning!) It usually is a suffix, though it can stand alone in rare usages.

It is the letter श्री spoken as shree. It is considered an auspicious letter and hence generally put as the initial letter of a Sanskrit verse or a sentence.
