Ok so looking for legal advice, yesterday I was detained for the day for theft over $5000 (Approx value of about 10K). I live in edmonton alberta... It was from my former employer some computers and misc equipment .etc...

I did confess to the crime and was taken in by a officer and detained for the day... They did a interview that was recorded and I confessed to everything and returned all the property... I allowed the police in my home and returned all the merchandise willing...

I have a court date and a promise to appear next month...

So I'm really scared this is my first offense, I have had issues with kleptomania my whole life (Not here to be judged.). So right now I'm seeking counselling, in the process of writing a apology letter which I will mail to my former employer... All stolen goods have been returned...

So was wondering anyone have any ideas what I'm looking at here? Or any helpful advice... Contacting legal aid tomorrow but just need as much advice as possible, I have a family on the go and can't really go to jail...

any non judgemental advice is appreciated...

Contact an attorney first thing in the morning.

You never should have admitted anything without an attorney present.

You are ill and that's not your fault. Explain it to the judge and I;m sure you will get a fine that you can pay in installments. Chin up!
