    Rust-like particles in my plumbing
I have rust like particles in my cpvc. The piping is about 9 years old. The flakes started to come out shortly after a cold snap. I need to know what it is, can I get rid of it and if not, is the best thing to do is replace the pipes? Any help is appriciated.

Are you on city water or your own well water? Looks like just normal rust to me that ends up in everybody's pipes. Replacing them won't solve the problem.

Are you on a well or city water? Do you know what type of piping is coming into the house, doubt it's CPVC? CPVC doesn't rust but a lot of well water has rust(iron) in it. Cold may have contracted the pipe and loosened the existing rust in the pipe. I am on a well with iron and change my whole house filter every 3 months-full of rust.

It is city water. None of my neighbors have this issue, very strange.

I put in a filter today so I hope to catch most of it. I am on city water by the way.

They are large flakes in the filter, but when they get to the sinks they break up. I am going to run the system with the filter and see how that does. Thanks.

If it's flakes, you can use a larger micron filter that won't clog up too fast. Brian

Where did you install the filter. On the incoming water service? If that's so and

Then that puts the problem between the city main and your house, how old is your house. What material is the pipe from the meter into your house. If you live in a older home with a galvanized water service then you've located the culprit. Good luck, Tom
