Severe cramping may not be normal, some cramping can be. Some women will experience what feel like their menstrual cramps. Do they come and go or is it constant?

Usually, as long as there is not any bleeding accompanying them, they are likely not a concern. Certainly if you feel they are severe, or just because they worry you, ask your doctor about them.

Definitely be sure to drink plenty of fluids... you don't need to go over the top with it, but many people don't drink as much as they should, and it is a good habit to get into.

In pregnancy, your uterus will contract a bit more if you are a bit dehydrated. This is felt more often later in pregnancy as the uterus enlarges... at 5 weeks some occasional cramping is not uncommon. Good to hear that they have eased for you!
