Is there a statute of limitations in Ontario for filing in small claims court?

Yes, and I got to say it's a good thing.

I would think for your situation it would be 2 years.

But who knows, read through the exceptions of Ontario's Limitations Act, 2002

    Limitations Act, 2002, S.O. 2002, c. 24, Sched. B

Ontario's new Limitations Act came into effect January 1, 2004. It reduced most limitation periods from 6 years to 2 years. For most causes of action that arose before January 1, 2004 the old 6 year limitation period remains in effect.
