Have had problems with the washer drain backing up into the garage. Had the plumber out to snake the line and now we have problems with what is called the stack pipe/cleanout backing up off the back of the house when we run water at the kitchen sink. The county was out and of course it is not there problem any where down the line. We were informed that all the other piping was PVC from when the house was switched from septic to sewer, however we have a section from this stack cleanout and out about 4 ft that is apparently still galvanized. The plumber was back today and said, oh yeah there is a blockage there (duh) I knew that. They lost the head of there snake in the pipe and now say it will be 1500-2000 to replace and we have to chip away the block of the house and repair part of the stack pipe.
It anyone has any helpful suggestions, my boyfriend and I are pretty handy. I am from MI, so this plumbing is different to me. Looking for some wise advice if anyone has any, sure don't have $1500-2000 available right now.

Let's get together on terms, A "stack" is a vertical pipe in the house the exits the roof. Is that what we're talking about?

We didn't use galvanized in drainage back then, Only water piping. You have cast iron.

The plumber screwed up and lost the tip and iyt's all your fault so you have to pay for retrieving it? HORSE HOCKEY!
And hasn't the plumber ever heard of using a retriever tip, (see image) to go in and snag it back?
Has he even attempted to retrieve the lost tip or is he simply waiting for you to shell out? Yeah I know the stack is at the top of the house, but this is according to them the same pipe which runs down the house and a clean out is within it. They did attempt to retrieve the tip without luck. I have not hired them to do the job.

I've been attempting to make sense out of your stack description. Could it be this stack is on the OUTSIDE of you house?
I've been plumbing the Tampa Bay/Bradenton/Sarasota area for the last 45 years and pretty much know what went doiwn in our area.

I'll be looking for your PM. I'm really into this. It was their equipment that failed. It's their responsibly to retrieve it. Not yours. Also (IMO) you should be compensated for the inconvenience of not having drainage, You do know that all solids and paper will catch on the lost tip and just build up into a bigger blockage.

I don't know any good lawyers and money was already a problem and now this. I know it will get worse with this tip, that is what I told the tech who was here. He said I will discuss it with the owner and have him get with you. Very irritated.
