My 6 month old Husky Malamute is well trained apart from still a small amount of chewing lol! However if she is left alone she still soils all over the house or room she is in. She sleeps in a cage overnight and she even soils that as well. The problem is she knows where to go and never does it when people are around but as soon as she is left on her own for an amount of time it happens. I let her out before leaving her and as soon as I get back! I don't know how to stop her!! Please help xxx

Pretty savvy dogs, huskies are, and they need a lot of outside time, high energy dogs. All working dogs are like that. She is protesting something the only way she knows how. So my advice is, spend more time with her and you won't have this problem. In my opinion they are the cleanest dogs, easily trained as long as they are handled properly.

If you have never had a husky before, grab a book or go on line and read about their habits, likes and dislikes. You will learn a lot, and remember, if anyone needs to be the alpha dog around any breed, you need to absolutely be the alpha around a husky.

Do you work all day? She needs a dog walker, period. A dog like that shouldn't be cooped up in a house. Look around for all-day doggie camps as a treat too; it might even be cheaper than an hourly person. Don't forget what the instincts of that breed are!

No I'm not working the momemnt so I spend most of my time with her its just if I need to pop out to the shops! Or overnight when I'm asleep xx

This breed is very stubborn (savvy is a great word) and can be hard to train. Yes, they are very high energy and if they are not depleted of this energy on a daily basis they will invent things to do while you are away. These dogs are bred to think, problem solve and use massive amounts of stored up energy. You may have the wrong breed, Huskies are not house dogs. You have to turn every day things into activities. Try this: have your dog sit and stay. While she watches you hide treats all over the room. She should spent the next half hour or 45 minutes searching out these morsels and you just turned treats into an energy burning activity. Huskies are one of the breeds that live to please without much reward; you need to create situations where they feel they are pleasing you. You can't take this dog for a simple walk. Buy a cheap pack and fill it with weights and treats. As you walk her stop every now and then and show her you are getting a treat from the pack and soon she will get excited about the working walk. Some people may balk at this suggestion but if you live in a rural area find a dirt road and run your dog next to the car. Start slow and the dog will learn to run next to the car. You could cruise along at 10-15 mph and your dog will run with pleasure. In a few weeks you will be driving down the dirt road, open the door and your Husky will jump out and take off in front of you, running like they are meant to,
