My Whirlpool washer top-half agitator slips
Whirlpool Estate washing machine, SM 8280869. Two-piece agitator.
The top half seems very sloppy, and hardly moves during the wash and rinse cycles. I can turn it easily by hand (feels like it isn't hooked to anything). It does turn with the bottom unit on spin cycles.
I removed the cap, but don't see how to remove the top part of the agitator to see what's wrong.
The bottom agitator segment seems solid.
How do I remove the top, and what should I look for?
    Thanks!

I found the answer to my own question.
Seems the piece I didn't know how to remove (covering the nut) was a slip-fit dust/water shield, and just took a good hard tug to pull it out.
The rest of the process was fairly simple, just like the procedure for other makes/models: Remove nut, pull out entire agitator, flip over to remove dogs and holder, remove retainer ring, replace dogs.
By the way, my local dealer had replacement dogs for the Whirlpool (they cost more than online, but I wanted them NOW). Whirlpool part FSP 80040 (called "Dog Agits"), $6.95 for a set of 4 (full retail price).
