I was needing to know how porous Porcelain tile is. I am going to be installing Porcelain in my kitchen I heard it was more durable. My dogs sleep in the kitchen at night and sometimes have an accident. Will the Porcelain tile absorb the urine and start to smell if it sits there over night?

To meet ANSI standards for such, porcelain tile must be at least 99.95% non-porous. Therefore it is unlikely you will have any real problems with absorption or odors.

You still have to be concerned with the grout, which is porous. Make sure you seal it after installation to prevent any problems.

Vinegar and water does a good job on urine, and there are enzyme cleaners that do an excellent job.

How old are the dogs? If they are having accidents very often, you may want to have a vet check them. Shutting the water supply off early in the evening helps. Biggest thing is a crate. It both helps the dog go longer and contains the problem. See the stickies at the top of the dog forum.

Don't worry about it. White vinegar usually cleans it up. If not then make a paste with it and baking soda and let it sit over night. Then wipe it up. Then wash with dawn dish soap and hot water to get rid of the vinegar smell. Trust me. Ive had dogs for years and spent hundreds on products. This is the only thing that works on everything from linoleum, to wood, to porcelin to tile.
