I signed a six month lease in California for a two-bedroom apartment eleven months ago. I am now on a month to month lease. My girlfriend has lived with me the entire time, but she is not on the lease and she has never contributed to rent. We have broken up and I have moved out of the apartment. I gave my girlfriend a few months to either start paying rent or to move out. The few months have come and gone and at this point it looks like she is not planning to move out and she has no money to pay rent. I'm trying to find out if I am legally liable in this situation? If I give my landlord notice and move all of my belongings out, can the landlord come after me if my ex-girlfriend remains in the apartment?
