    Procrastination: 2nd try
    Procrastination

I originally posted this under another topic, and got no replies so I thought I would try it here.
I just realized that I have been procratinating a lot lately. Not only with the chores that I don't like to do but with just about everything. I have always been a very energetic person, not needing much sleep and constantly staying busy trying new things and going places.
This seem to have started when I started working an overnight shift with children. For the first year everything was fine. I could work, go to school, take care of my household responsibilities and find time to do some fun stuff.

After the first year, the woman that I work with kind of started to slack off. She's and older woman who has been with the company for over thirty years. She's not very good with the documentation so it has sort of feel to me to do most of it. Also, the children don't really listen to her the way that they listen to me, so I wind up dealing with the kids' behavioral issues most of the time as well.

This past week I have been off work due to an ear infection, and I guess because I had time to think I realized that most of the things I do and have been doing for the past ten years have been for somebody else. I guess I have just started to resent the responsibility.

Whenever we think of procrastinators we tend to think of lazy people, is it possible that they are just resentful people?

I would like to ask the members, when you procratinate, why do you do it??

    Any thoughts??

Say, this makes sense to me... Have you been to your doctor for a checkup? Explain the symptoms and ask if he thinks you could be going through a form of depression.

Now this can be brought on by stress, changes in life (job, family, etc.), health, and, like you mentioned, a building of resentment. But you have internalized this.

So please go and talk to your doctor. This could be just a situational stress/depression that can be addressed in good fashion.

Hope this helps you. Good luck.

Thanks shygrneyzs, internalized, not a word I would have thought of, and surprisingly very helpful.

    Hello:

Yeah, I know what you mean. Sometimes I feel real productive and ready to get after it... Then I lie down till the feeling goes away.

The fact that this thread is labelled "procrastination, 2nd try" holds unbelievable irony to me. Almost spit my drink on the screen when I read it.

I think it's all a state of mind. When I'm happy, my house stays clean. When I'm a mess, so is my house. The rest of my affairs follow suit. So, in general and for me, it all centers around my mental well being and state of emotional happiness. I'm sure for each of us, it is different... just speaking for me.

Maybe you are burned out on your job. I think you may be feeling overextended and unappreciated and used at work. That can make one feel a bit sad about their job and not knowingly, feeling trapped which can make one feel quite low energy which will make you not want to do things. Therefore you procrastinate.

Your title, Procrastination, 2nd try reminds me of myself. I bought a book years ago called "Do it now" about procrastination. I never got around to reading it.

It could be phase, it could be your bored, and it could be depression.

Hehehehe you have a way of making me giggle Mag! I read your news article earlier about the exploding dough can... hahahaha I cried with laughter... then I said I would browse some more questions before replying to any... hmm procrastination?

I think procrastination, at least for me, its not wanting to deal with things... ignoring them even if they are simple. I am VERY bad at procrastinating... to the point that I think I am lazy more than anything.

I know I should look into talking to a professional, cause I really put off a lot of things and avoid thinking about things that I would rather not analyze.
