How do you put in on off wall switch when rmote is lost omn a gas fireplace
I have a neighbor who purchased an existing home and the vented gas log fireplace remote control is not anywhere to be found.. His wife wants to have a simple wall switch for turning the fireplace on and off. On the wall beside the fireplace there is a plate covering a switch box which says something about the remote system and I think this is where the receiver is located. Please advise as to how I may assist them in converting the operation, on and off operation, to a simple single pole light switch. Maybe a drawing as how to convert to wall switch operation and forgo the remote.

I just installed a new thermo couple today, pilot light, for my neighbor. Neither he or his wife have a clue as how a single pole 110v. Light switch works much less how to wire something that simple. I am hoping that I can open the remote mechanism mounted on the wall beside the fireplace and bridge two wires with a single pole 110v. Switch to convert the fireplaces operation to a simple wall switch; on and off . The pilot light is remaining on now that I replaced the thermocouple.

    Please advise.

    Thanks,

The receiver should have a relay that switches two wires, a feed and a switch leg that continues onto the fireplace, need to find these two wires and install the switch.

THANK YOU tkrussell for your rapid and very helpful response to my question, I went and took a stab at installing a single pole switch after reading your directions. TRACEING the two wires from the transmitter, which went under the fireplace and connected to a red and a brown wire which had a factory installed tag reading, "these two wires are for a remote or wall switch. So there you go, I DISCONNECTED THE TWO
CONNECTING WIRES FROM THE TRANSMITTER AND INSTALLED A SINGLE POLE SWITCH CONNECTING THE RED AND BROWN WIRE. I TURNED THE SINGLE POLE SWITCH OFF BREAKING THE CONNECTION. BINGO, THE GAS SUPPLY TO THE LOGS SHUT OFF. SWITCHING THE SWITCH TO THE ON POSITION, POW--FIRE. MY FRIEND AND ESPECIALLY HIS WIFE ARE HAPPY CAMPERS TONIGHT DUE TO YOU TKRUSSELL. YOUR TUTORING AND SHARING YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND TIME WITH ME HAS RESULTED IN ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL REPAIR.

    THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
