    Oakum
Hey guys, was just wondering when one wants to transition from cast iron to pvc oakum is a must but instead of using lead one can use soil seal correct? If so can anyone tell me step by step how this is done and what type of tools are required?

    Thanks guys :)

Yes! You may substitute Soil Seal form a poured lead joint.
Go to your local Rental Place and rent a:
    1)Yearning iron
    2) Packing iron

Use your yearning to push oakum in the hub. Fill it up and pack it down with a packing iron. Pack them oakum down to within a inch of the top of the hub.
Once you use a putty knife to push the soil seal into the joint space it gets slightly mounded and that's it. You can thank Mark for the Soil Seal info. Good luck, Tom
