Hello all, well, I have a 220 heater,
It works fine and has for years, but now the plug in cord, where it plugs in to the wall is getting very hot,the heater still works good, but the cord gets so hot some times you can hold it in your hands?? Please can you help??

Heat is generated by many things in an electrical circuit: too small of wire, loose connections or a malfunction of equipment. If the equipment is pulling appropriate amperage and the cord and circuit is of sufficient size, I would suspect that the receptacle may not be gripping the plug tightly enough, which could generate heat. Warm is usually OK... hot is not. Can you add any detail to your post?

Yes, well, I thought it mite be the heater, so, I had it checked( by a pro) and they said it was working like it should and didn't heat up there, so do you think it is the plugin? It dose seem to be a bite losser then before.

Is the cord getting hot, or just the plug? And what did the "pro" think? Did you tell the "pro" what you are saying on this board?

When I said pro,I meant nothing by it, sorry,if it came out wrong, my typing is bad. But yes, I did tell him and he thought it may be the cord end, getting worn out.but yes both the cord and the plug too gets hot. And thank you again,do you know what mite be causeing it?

Do you know the amperage of the heater and the size of the wire on the heater? Is the plug molded on the heater or is it wired to the end of the cord?

No,sorry, the cord came with it, it just said 220, but the plug is it is molded on the wires. And that is where it gets hot,the wrest of the cord stays cool, when I pulg the heater in it stays cool, its just the heater and only at the end?

Might consider replacing the whole cord AND the dryer outlet. Something is loose, could be internal in the plug, could be a combination of both the plug and socket. How often do you plug and unplug the heater?

Well, we do plug and unplug it a lot, that's the only way to turn it off and on, just to be safe,I think your right.I will change them both, thank you all so much.
