Should a landed immigrant in Canada pay for hospital bill
I recently came to canada and when I applied for my health card I was told that I will have to wait three months for it. I ended up in the hospital because of a miscarriage and had to spend two nights. I also had a blood transfusion. In the emergency the doctor told me that I have to pay him before he would do my surgeory a D & C. The hospital now sent me the bill for the two night stay for 4500.00. Should I pay it?

It's true that newcomers in Canada are not eligible for state medical care for the first 3 months - it is the same with canadian citizens-non residents who return to Canada on a permanent basis. During that period of 3 moths you need to get yourself a private medical insurance or will have pay any expenses from the pocket.I would get a private insurance and then go to a doctor but depends on emergency of the situation...
