Do I have to father's name on birth certificate?
We are not married and in fact he was practically forcing me to get an abortion and I refused. He just recently decided to come back in the picture and be a "father" but isn't around and doesn't help me with anything. I do not want my son to have his last name but I'm concerned if his name has to be on the birth certificate?

You are not required to list a father but that doesn't mean he won't have rights. If he petitions the court and takes a DNA test to establish himself as the biological father of the child, he will have the same rights you do.

    Let's put it this way:

Listing him on the birth certificate as the father will save you a LOT of problems down the road.

Also--do you not think your child should know who his biological father is and have a legal record of it? YOU may not like the guy. Your child may not ever KNOW the guy--but not knowing and not having a legal record is one of the main problems adoptees have as adults.
