I'm a canadian born citizen, I have portuguese grandparents and was told that I can get a portuguese passport because of that.

No, both parents would have had to be born in Portugal (or in certain Portuguese colonies) for you to obtain a passport.

If you want a passport, why not apply for a Canadian passport?
