    New wiring for ceiling fan
    Hello,
I want to install a new ceiling fan with light and wall mount control. Also an additional ceiling light with switch. Both switches will be next to each other on wall. I plan on installing a new breaker and wire. My questions are do I run cable from panel to switches then to fixtures, or vice versa. Also do I need 2 separate runs from panel or can I somehow incorporate both switches and fixtures with 1 run. I appreciate any advice on this matter. Thanks

You can do this with one run, probably a 15 amp circuit using 14-2 romex. Run your home run (from the panel) to the switch. You can splice your hot wire with two pigtails, one feeding each switch. Then run your cable to your lights. Splice your neutrals together. Switch legs go to the switches.

    Thanks Anthony,
The Fan wall mount switch has separate light and fan controls. Can I still do that with 14-2 romex? Or should I use 14-3. Also I am not sure what switch legs go to the switches mean? Thanks again.

Yes, run 14-3 for the ceiling fan. That way you have a neutral for the unit, and two switch controlled hots (switch legs), one for the fan and one for the light.

The switch leg is the hot you run from the switch, to the unit. You have a constant hot coming in to the switch from the panel, and a switch leg going to the unit. You make and break this wire using the switch. Your neutral wire just passes through and never goes to a switch, unless it's a special switch that calls for it.

Just to clarify, you need 14-2 from the panel to either the fan or the switches, and 14-3 between the switches and fan.
