Installing a chandelier with 1 black wire and 1 white wire to a 2 black and 2 w
I have a chandelier that I tried to connect. It has one black wire and one white wire, to 2 black wires and 2 white wires, when I connected the 2 black wires to the black from the chandelier and the 2 white wires from the chandelier it tripped the breaker. What do I do?

The first thing u have to do is find out what the 2 cables in the box are for.

Do u have a wall switch that controls the light? If so then one set is a switching leg. This u can find out with an ohm meter. With breaker off, turn on switch and see which pair moves reading to zero. This would be switch leg.

The other pair would be power. This u can set with volt meter and breaker on. Should read 110.

Hook black wire from power to black wire for switch.

Hook white wire from switch to black wire for light. Put black tape on this white wire to let u know it is hot.

Hook white wire from power to white wire from light.

When doing the hook ups, make sure breaker is OFF

Turn on breaker and u should be good to go.
