Why is my overhead lamp fixture not controlled by the wall switch?
I recently had an electrician confirm that the switch and overhead mount are live. I installed the new light fixture according to directions - black to black white to white ground to ground and sealed all with wire connectors and secured with electrical tape. Turned the circuit breaker back on and the light works but remains on - not controlled by wall switch. Though the one next to it works (controls both door lamps outside). I'm pretty confident, one switch applies to the outside lamps and one should be the hallway light. Any experience with this?

If he confirmed it was hot, he should also have confirmed if the switch controlled the light or if it controlled an outlet. If you only have 2 wires in the ceiling box, they are always hot or possibly controlled by a switch loop. Look at the wires on the switch you think should control the light. If there are 2 wires, both black, you probably have a switch controlled outlet. Find out if the hot wire for the ceiling box is run from the wall box and get back to us, you may be able to put in a double switch. Let us know. PS, what was in the ceiling box before? Pull chain controlled?
