Can I adopt my wife's daughter if her father lives outside the US?
Me and my wife have been together for 2 years and she has a daughter from a previous relationship in Colombia. My daughters father lives in Colombia and has never been involved in her life even when she lived over there he has a tendency to disappear. They are both now living with me here in the United States and I want to legally adopt her. What do I need to to move forward with the adoption? Do I need him in order to make it legal?

You will need to get him to relinquish his rights. To "move forward" you engage an attorney to prepare the adoption petition. The attorney will advise on what you have to do to get his rights terminated.
