    Widescreen Monitor
My computer has a graphics card which supports resolutions up to 1280 X 1024. Is this sufficient to support a widescreen monitor with a resolution of 1440 X 900?

Probably, but we would need to know the exact model of your graphics card. If you don't know what it is, here's how to get the information: First, I'm assuming you're using Windows XP or 2000. Right Click "My Computer" In the popup menu, Left click "Manage". On the left side of the window that appears you will see "Device Manager". Click it. When you click it, on the right will appear a bunch of stuff. Find Display Adapters (probably 3rd from top) and click the little + (plus) sign next to it. You will see the model of your adapter. Post it and we'll probably be able to give you a better answer.

This is in response to Slogmeister's questions. I have 2 computers and am considering widescreen monitors (Samsung 1440 X 900) for each one. Computer #1 has VGA Albatron NVIDIA GeForce FX5200E 128MB. Computer #2 has VGA Leadtek NVIDIA GeForce 2 TI 64MB TV. Can they handle 1440 X 900 monitor resolution? Any help will be appreciated.

I have a 19" Videoseven wide screen. In the UK cost was £129. Working at 1024 x 768 at present. See What's New In Personal Computing Superb !

Eugene10: Both cards will probably work. I'm not entirely sure about the TI, because Nvidia's web site doesn't list a 64MB model. The other, most definitely.

SuffolSilver: Just because it supports 1280x1024 doesn't mean it will support 1440x900. Obviously, from a memory standpoint it would, but some older graphics cards are unaware of the odd resolutions that occur today, even though they support higher resolutions. If it's a newer card, it probably will. Since you're currently using the graphics card, why don't you just try it? It won't damage the monitor, because it's not a CRT.
