Does schizophrenia make you ineligible for an immigration visa?
My brother has a mental disorder. He was diagnosed with schizophrenia. We applied for I-130 visa and his papers just came through. He will soon go to an American Consulate for visa interview. Does anyone know if they can deny his application because he has schizophrenia?
    Thanks,

    No, that would be discrimination.

Yes, there is a potential ground of inadmissibility under section 212(a)(1) health-related grounds.

If he has a mental disorder that may pose a threat to property, persons or himself, then the CONOFF may deny the IV. He may need to get a determination from a panel physician and then apply for an I-601 waiver.

Consult with an experienced immigration attorney.

Yes, this might be a ground of inadmissibility... consult experienced immigration attorney as soon as possible BEFORE going to the interview.

That is what I thought but it seems like it could be an issue based on the previous comments.
