I'm 52 yrs and believe I'm premenopausal. I'm on Necon because. Recently I had extremely heavy bleedin out of nowhere and found I had 2 fibroids on uterus. Also thickenin of the lining.. is there an alternative to surgery or d&c?

I'm 52 and had some heavy bleeding for about 4 days and nights. Found out I had 2 fibroids and thickenin of lining. Dr wants to do d&c. what is to be expected afterwards? A lot of bleeding? Will I be able to go back to work in a few days?

Hi joel, your question interests me because you are still on a birth control pill at 52, one that is fairly simple in what it delivers and a side effect is thickening of the uterus lining (this is not uncommon). In a younger woman it would not normally be a problem but in your case you have developed fibroids (from the thickening).

How long have you been on Necon, joel? I am asking just to clarify what I am thinking about your predicament and I still haven't addressed your original question of alternative treatment for the fibroids.

At 52 you should be either premenopausal or through it already. Many women sail through menopause without really being bothered too much by the symptoms we all hear we are 'supposed' to have, and there are many.

Was your doctor remiss in leaving you on this birth control pill so long? Are you still on it for the benefits of hormones it delivers ?

I am 52 n perimeno. I found out I hv a cyst on my ovary and 2 fibroids on pelvis. Neither one are painful to me. Dr wants to do surgery for cyst and d&c for fibroids. Is there medicine I can tk to shrink fibroids, and keep watch on cyst? Is there med I can take to shrink fibroids. I understand once you go through menopause, fibroids shrink anyway...
