    Painting galvansied steel fence
Our garden is fenced with galvanised steel. It's very nice but the original black paint peeks off very quickly. I understand that when painitng on top of galvanising that you have to use the correct primer otherwise the paint will not 'key' to the zinc surface.

Does anyone know what the correct primer is to use please?

    Thanks for your help

Rustoleum used to have a product called Galvoleum, and others may have similar products. You need a totally synthetic material. The trouble is, the zinc is alkaline and converts the old style oils to soaps, losing its adhesion. Either a solvent based synthetic or a latex shoulded be fine. Avoid anything listing a natural oil in the ingredients or is labeled alkyd or glypthal.
