I have a question my husband and myself just found out yesterday that he could possibly have a child that he had no clue about and the child is now 7 years old! My question is the child does not have his last name and he wasn't aware of the situation until just recently but my husband is'nt sure if the child is even his cause it was only a one night stand almost 8 years ago. I guess my question is, does this mean my husband has to pay for a paternity test if he doesn't believe its his kid and he didn't know about this child possibly being his until recently and what can my husband and myself do to get over this hurdle its not like we can afford a paternity test we have two kids of our own and another on the way.. if anyone has advice it would be much appreciated thanks!

If a test is court ordered your husband will be obligated to pay for it only if he is the father. If he is the father he will be ordered to pay 15-20% of his income as child support/ it depends on the state child support guidelines?

Yes, stop worrying about the Paternity test, it will be the monthly child support taken from his check. So just don't pay something and have the test to be sure.

You are putting the cart before the horse. First, the mother has to file for support. As part of that filing a paternity test will be taken. Depending on where you live (ANY question on law needs to include a general local as laws vary by area) he may be required to pay if he's found to be the father. Or the court may foot the bill. Also depending on where you live, it may be too late to file for support against him if someone else has been designated the legal father.
