A girl is visiting her grandfathers ranch and her mother is reading "to kill a mockingbird" to her after that her grandfather gets her a puppy but the puppy has to stay at the ranch so he can pay for the expense of buying the puppy by selling the litter when it is older. On their way home the mother is driving in a storm and she looks at her husband sleeping and then she looks back at her daughter and she gets into a car accident and dies, and the grandfather blames the father because he thought the father was driving.
