Honda del sol - distributor rotor not spinning - what do I buy?
Hi I found some of my answeres - here is where I am at.

My car died while I was driving it the other day - just quit running. The crank turns and everything sounds right it just won't start.

I checked for spark and found none. So I took off the distributor cap and the rotor thing in there does not spin when the car is trying to start. What do I replace? The whole black thing under the rotor? The rotor or what?

Also I read something about lining the rotor up when I put the new one on. Um what do I line up and to where?

    Thanks in advance!

Sounds like your timing belt broke. This is not a job the average person can do themselves. You will want to confirm this. If this proves to be the case, have the water pump replaced at the same time. This is standard operating procedure.

I would believe that the timing belt has broken and that is why the rotor is not turning.the distributor on you're honda is driven by the camshaft and the camshaft is driven by the timing belt which is driven by the crankshaft.timing belt goes around the crankshaft pulley and cam pulley if the belt is broken cam does not turn and neither does the distributor or rotor.you're going to have to verify this by either cylinder compression test or physically looking, but before you do this remove the valve cover and make sure the camshaft did not break.also make sure that this engine is not an interfearance motor... hope that helps

toben you should probably be able to contact you're local dealer or a knowledgeable parts guy at you're local parts store.back in the day when i sold new parts i remember that the same very book i would look up the part number for the proper belt it would tell me if it was or was'nt.i do not think that engine is but like i said you better double check...

Timing belt is broken - how do I tell if I bent the valves or not?

Get the engine number off the front of the engine and call your local Honda dealer to find out if it's an interference engine. Timing belts should be changed every 90,000 miles or 7 years, whichever comes first.

Ok toben by you're response i am guessing you have found that the timing belt is broken.the reason you need to find out if this is a interfearance engine or not is if it is an interfearance motor it would likely bend valves if not replace timing belt and water pump, also make sure while you're there check the timing belt tensioner.that is why you should check with you're local dealer with you're vin handy.interfearance motor-bent valves, non interfearance motor replace belt and water pump and you should be good to go!!
