Our house had a major remodel (1948 house) in 2009. We bought it in 2010 and are discovering strange things. The jetted tub has the hot and cold reversed (hot on right side), and we just found out that the toilet near that tub is piped with a hot water supply line (maybe they tapped off what they thought was the cold line from the tub?). Is this something our new home warentee should cover?

If this is a Moen faucet the repair's real simple. Just let me know. The hot water to the toilet tank could be related to the tub. Is there anybody you could check with to see if this has been a problem since 09? Have you had a plumber in to check and why wasn't it caught when the house was inspected?

Not knowing how your warrantee reads I can't say but it's assumed that when you purchase it everything will be in working order and you will have potable water and satisfactory drainage. Good luck, Tom

The faucet is not a moen. The whole second story (where this bath is located) was new as of 09. There was a family who rented the house for 1 year, so I can check with them, but likely it hasn't changed since it was built. We are the first owners since it was built to flip. We moved in in October 2010. I was there during the home inspection, and it was not caught (likely because there is a very long run to the water heater in the basement and water in the pipes cool between typical flushes), and who would think to flush lots of time to check for such a strange thing! We didn't even notice until it got clogged today and we flushed it about a dozen times (and the hot water made its way up to the bathroom!) We are going to talk to the contractor and seller's realtor to see if they can repair it. Thanks!

The sellers are required, by law, to disclose any known defects at time of sale. Surely the seller used the toilet enough to realize the toilet was piped to hot water.

You might consider installing a recirculating pump for that problem after the toilet has been repiped. Good luck, Tom
