In some instances that still happens BUT the military has to be extremely low in their quotas to accept you. Also depends on what felony charge you had. Call a recruiter near you and see what they say. J_9's son had a hard time getting into the military with a misdemeanor in Tenn. But out in LA for instance they recruit out of the prisons all the time. Just depends on your area and how desperate they are for warm bodies. Worth a look see as you never know until you try.
Yes today the military seldom wants you with any serious convictions. You will have to apply and get a waiver, and then only if the DA will allow and make this deal. Basically you make the deal with the DA then go apply with military, the DA gives you a time limit to get in normally.
